For most overseas visitors, we strongly recommend not driving in Cornwall. Roads here are often very narrow, two-way lanes with no center line, steep hedgerows, and frequent blind corners. Passing places are common and can feel stressful if you’re not used to them. Add to that right-hand-drive vehicles, driving on the left, limited parking, and unpredictable farm traffic, and even confident drivers can find it challenging. The region’s roads are famously narrow, winding, and full of tight bends, with frequent single-track sections and passing places. Even short distances can take significantly more time than expected, especially if you encounter oncoming traffic, slow-moving farm vehicles, or parked cars in villages. GPS estimates rarely account for these slow sections, so to avoid spending a large portion of your trip in the van, careful consideration needs to be given to where you spend the night. How long should we spend in Cornwall?
The length of your stay really depends on how far you want to explore Cornwall.
